Day 6. The Mistral is a challenge
Today’s race started at 10am and we were scheduled for 5 courses. On our way out the Mistral started blowing from North/West with 36 knots.
The magnitude of the wind, the multiple amount of boats, 73 in total, created at the start line a chaotic situation with boats capsizing left, right and centre.
The strong wind and having problems with the rudder lock made it impossible to continue the race. We had to sail to shore twice to get shelter from the wind and to fix the rudder. We missed out 4 races and got far behind in the Gold fleet Championship. We managed to complete one race but Michala fell in the Mediterranean Sea so we made no. 63rd out of 73 boats. We had great fun and the fighting spirit is strong…… almost as strong as the Mistral and we will keep on doing the very best we can.
Day 7. Absolutely no wind…
We had one long race but only 15 boats managed to finish before the sea went quiet. Later in the afternoon we had two more races where we came 36th – because Michala misunderstood Yoanna and took the gate instead of the finishing line which cost us a ranking of 10-12 boats. To justify it a bit is it worth mentioning that Michala actually had the flu. The last race we got in as no. 30th.
Day 8. Progress
Enormously proud to inform you that in the first race we made it past the top mark no. 13th and eventually we finished 29th out of 73 boat. In the second race we did not stick to our strategy plan and we finished 59th.
The price giving ceremony was finishing touch to a wonderful week and the winner of the Hobie Cat 16 European was Orion Martin and Charlotte Hilliard from France.
“Vive la France”.
We have learned so much about trimming and sailing the Hobie, met amazing people and have had an absolute blast.
We will miss our Danish Pom Pom girls (cheer leaders), all our new friends, the atmosphere, the Hobie way of life, the sea and the sunshine. The good thing is that we are so ready for participating in more championships. We will definitely be back for more Hobie action and fun.
We have now said goodbye to our Hobie friends and the charter boat. The boat was left with all the sponsor stickers on, so if you one day should come to Cagliari (Sardinia) then please go and say hello to our partner of transport, our old charter school boat and the friendly people at the Windsurfing Club.
