Day 5 and 6. What a difference a day makes – CHAMPIONSHIP IN SARDINIA

Day 5: No wind

Day 6: Close to gail force

The Hobie Team spirit down here is fantastic and every body helps each other. So enjoying the Hobie way of life.

Sorry for not updating you yesterday but we were a little worn out as we waited for 3 hours before finally getting the chance to race. Unfortunately after another 4 hours of lying around in the water the race was eventually canceled.

We had absolutely no wind!!!!!

Luckily, at sea we made even more new friends. Even though it is a competition the spirit is excellent. Basically, we really needed one more race to be able to eliminate our 32nd place from the day before. Due to lack of wind we stayed on a 24th place in total.  (Our results in qualification: 12th, 14thand 32nd out of 38 boats).

Fortunately, we had the prize giving ceremony last night for the Hobie Youth-, Spi- and Master classes and could celebrate our two excellent Danish youth teams, who got gold and silver – the ever growing  Pom Pom Girl Team and the rest of the Danes celebrated the young sailors who has also become our “mentors”. 1. DEN Trine BENTZEN, Nicolaj BJORNHOLT 13 pts and 2. DEN Daniel BJORNHOLT, Sofie SLOTSGAARD 14 pts.

Today all 73 Hobie Cats started in the Gold Fleet, which meant, that we all got new sails. (We are now competing against Hobie Youth-, Spi- and Master sailors. We have never started in a race with so many boats).

All the Hobie sailors were very excited this morning since the wind had picked up during the night. Off we went in turbo speed nearly flying over the water. As the wind speed went up till 38 knots (about 19 s/m) it became too difficult and unsafe to race so the Hobie Championship was also canceled today.  We had lots of fun but we were overpowered by the wind and had to sail to the nearest shore for shelter. We capsized 6 times but nothing serious damaged even though Michala hurt her elbow and lost her voice – both features that no skipper can do without.

Tomorrow the wind is forecasted only to be 14 knots (7 m/s) which would be a treat.

Can’t wait…

Gone sleeping Zzzz Zzzzz
